Carl Butler

 

Artist Carl Butler was born in France on March 22, 1962 , he is the son of Randolph and Madeleine Butler.  He showed an affinity for art early on while living with his Military Family in Germany and California.
 
He moved near Burkittsville Md. With his Family in 1976 when his Father, originally from the area, retired from active duty.  Wile attending Brunswick High School,  Carl took part in the gifted and talented program.
 
Upon graduation, Mr. Butler attended The Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore.  He subsequently created numerous commissioned paintings depicting,  landscapes, portraits,  family residences,  prized cattle,  to name a few.
 
In 1997 he was commissioned by the Curator of the Brunswick Museum,  Mrs. Eleanor Milligan,  to portray African Americans working on the railroad,  he did so in honor of his Grand Father,  George W. Butler,  who was a stationary fireman in the Brunswick yard. The painting is 5ft x 6ft and is the focal point of the exhibit on the museum’s third floor.
 
In February 2002 he was invited to display some of his work at the Brunswick Museum as part of a Black History program.  Mr. Butler participated in the “ Expression of African American Art “ at the Delaplaine Visual Arts Center in Frederick, Md. In February 2004.
 
Carl has also displayed his art work, at the Light Street Gallery, in Baltimore Maryland.
 
Carl’s medium is acrylics, he favors a blue palette, and likes to show light’s special effects on many of his works, using iridescent paint and often hides spiritual symbols in his creations.
 
Mr Butler continues his studies under the direction of award winning artist Mary Pfister, in Frederick Md.    He is a member of the Frederick County Art Association and the Delaplaine Visual Arts Center in Frederick, Md.
