Spring Workshop Schedule 2007

PHOTO COMPOSITION with Dan Scenna
Mondays / 4 weeks, dates: 2/19, 2/26, 3/5, 3/12 ..........6:30-8:30pm
COST: $ 80

For anyone that wants to know the elements and rules of composition.  Highly recommended to those of us that are self taught photographers and may have missed all those art classes in school.  Learn to use leading lines, framing, texture, pattern, shape, C and S curves and isolation techniques to really add to the impact of your photography.  Even if you like to break the rules, you need to know which rule you are breaking!  The class with be part lecture and part practical exercises to ensure students can produce the desired effects whenever they want. Prior Experience: Familiar with  how to use your camera. Must have camera. Ages 18 and up

ABSTRACT PAINTING WITH MUSIC 
with Rosa Altagracia
Tuesdays / 6 weeks, dates:  2/20, 2/27, 3/6, 3/13, 3/20, 3/27   ....... 7:30pm-9:30pm
COST: $ 200

This painting class is designed to make abstract art easier to understand. By introducing music into the creative process, the artist will learn how to paint a non-representational interpretation inspired by sound. Ages 18 and up.

EXTREME PORTRAITS  with Dan Scenna
Wednesdays / 4 weeks, dates: 2/21, 2/28, 3/7, 3/14   .......  6:30-8:30pm 
COST: $ 150 ... plus a one time $70 modeling fee for 3 group sessions of 2 hours each.  Models will work with the class with individuals taking turns shooting.

A hands-on class, held in studio and on simulated location, with a model.  The class will introduce techniques for using lighting, pose, make up, props & costuming, and special effects for spectacular portraits suitable for model portfolios, theatrical productions, and band promotion shots.  This is not your fathers portrait class.  If you ever wanted to produce portrait work that really stands out from the norm, try this class.  A minimum class size of 4 is needed to conduct this class.  A maximum of 7 students will be accepted. Prior Experience: Should be familiar with camera operations.  This is a semi-advanced class.  The techniques used are straightforward, but the student must be able to adjust their own cameras as directed by the instructor. Must have a digital or film camera with the ability to manually control shutter speed and aperture.  Bring your camera manual to all classes.  A tripod is highly recommended. Ages 18 and up.
REALISM TO ABSTRACTION, ABSTRACTION TO REALISM

Thursdays / 6 weeks, dates:  2/22, 3/1, 3/8, 3/15,  3/22, 3/29     ..... 7:30-9:30 
COST: $ 280
This class will allow the artist to understand line quality in abstract painting. Using realistic images and breaking them down to the simplest form.  This process will then help the artist in finding a equal balance with line, color and shape.  In taking this class the artist will learn how to read, look and interpret the language of abstraction. Supplies needed: Large sketchbook, paint (oil or acrylic), brushes. Additional Supply Fee: $45. Ages 18 and up.

POTTERY WITH HANDBUILDING TECHNIQUES with John O'Neill
2 sessions: Saturday February 24th, 10am-12pm Handbuilding and Saturday March 10th, 10am-12pm Glaze hand built work from 1st class.
COST: $ 75

In the first session, the class will work with handbuilding techniques to build their own pottery. All work will need to dry for a few days before getting fired in the kiln. During the second session the class will glaze their fired bisqueware, which will need another firing in the kiln to be complete. Everyone will be informed when pottery is ready for pick up! Those interested may view a demo of wheel thrown pottery.

PHOTOSHOP ONLINE with Sheri D'Elia
5 weeks beginning Wednesday February 21st. ......COST $ 60

This online class will introduce basic techniques used in photoshop. Five lessons will give tips on photo retouching, text effects, and using layers. New lessons will be posted in the online classroom on Wednesdays with step-by-step visual instructions. Instructor can be reached via email and/or phone for extra instruction when needed. Must have photoshop and internet connection. Ages 18 and up.
CRITIQUES OVER COFFEE  
Photography Portfolio reviews and constructive critiques, by Dan Scenna. On Saturday April 7, from 11am until 1pm at the WestSide Cafe. ....
Cost is $10.00 per portfolio.
Meet up with Dan Scenna, local photographer, at the WestSide Cafe for coffee and critique. Call or email ahead for reservations. Walk-ins are welcome based on time available. (Coffee is not included in portfolio critique price)
